Editorial Policy

Gyuto Club exists to be useful to the person spending the money, and these are the standards that keep it that way. They are not decoration. If we ever break one, telling us is the fastest way to get it fixed.

Independence

Our picks are editorial choices, not paid placements. No brand pays to be covered, to rank higher, or to keep a rival off the list, and we do not run sponsored “reviews” dressed up as neutral ones. We take no free units in exchange for a favorable write-up. When we recommend a knife or a stone, it is because our published method supports it — and when the method says a popular product isn’t worth it, we say so.

How affiliate relationships affect rankings

They don’t. Gyuto Club earns commission when you buy through some of our links, and we explain that in full on our affiliate disclosure. But the commission on a product is never an input to where it ranks. Rankings are buyer-first: the specs, the price, and the fit to the reader decide the order, full stop. If a lower-paying knife is the better buy, it wins — that is the whole point of ranking on numbers instead of margins.

Corrections

We fix errors promptly and note that we did rather than quietly editing the record. If you spot a spec that’s wrong — a hardness, a blade length, a steel grade — flag it through our contact page. Tell us the knife, the figure, and your source, and we’ll check it against the manufacturer. If you’re right, we correct it and say we did. A guide that can’t admit a mistake isn’t worth reading.

Sourcing standard

Every specification we publish traces to a manufacturer source — a spec sheet or an official product listing — and is dated on the review card so you can see how current it is. Where a maker does not state a figure, we print “Not published” instead of guessing. We do not fabricate reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or aggregate scores, and we do not claim hands-on testing we didn’t do. If we haven’t held it, we don’t pretend we have.

Update cadence

Our headline roundups are re-checked about quarterly for spec accuracy, price freshness, and whether the field has changed — a new model, a discontinued one, a revised price tier. Live prices refresh far more often than that, on a daily check with a freshness gate, so a number you read reflects a recent reality rather than the day the article was first written. When a product is discontinued or superseded, we update the pick rather than leaving a dead recommendation in place.
